Arnold Schwarzenegger's Highest Earning Comedy Film Revealed

Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed a surprising detail about his illustrious career: his most lucrative film was not one of his iconic 'Terminator' sequels, but rather the 1988 comedy 'Twins', co-starring Danny DeVito. This revelation came during an appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen', where Schwarzenegger disclosed that he earned 'well over $40 million' from the film, stating it was 'more than in any movie I’ve ever made.'

The unique financial arrangement for 'Twins' was the key to its exceptional profitability for Schwarzenegger. He and DeVito opted to receive no upfront salary, instead securing ownership with a significant piece of the film's backend profits. This unconventional deal was a strategic move to convince the studio to cast him in a comedy, as they were initially hesitant, preferring him in action roles due to his established success in films like 'The Terminator', 'Predator', and 'Conan the Barbarian'. Schwarzenegger recalled the studio's skepticism, paraphrasing them as asking, 'Are you crazy? The more people this guy kills on-screen, the more money we make. Why would we change that?'

Despite the initial resistance, the gamble paid off handsomely. 'Twins' became Schwarzenegger’s first movie to gross over $100 million domestically, reaching $216 million worldwide in theaters and generating even more revenue from home video sales. This success proved that Schwarzenegger could indeed 'cross over' into the comedy genre, broadening his appeal.

Following the triumph of 'Twins', plans were underway for a sequel titled 'Triplets', intended to reunite Schwarzenegger and DeVito, with Eddie Murphy initially slated to join as the third brother. Tracy Morgan later replaced Murphy in the casting discussions. However, the project ultimately became permanently shelved after the untimely death of director Ivan Reitman, who had been instrumental in bringing 'Twins' to the screen.

In other news regarding the actor's career, Schwarzenegger is currently starring in the second season of the action-comedy series 'FUBAR' on Netflix, which premiered on June 12. The show has received mixed reviews, with some critics suggesting it has potential but needs improvement in writing and budget. Looking ahead, Schwarzenegger is also set to play Santa Claus in an upcoming holiday movie titled 'The Man with the Bag'.
