The NCAA is responsible for regulating aviation safety and overseeing the operations of airports, airspace management, and meteorological services.
In a statement issued on Friday, Agbomhere expressed concern over airline operations in Nigeria, citing flight delays, cancellations, and lack of accountability.
The APC chieftain was reacting to a recent incident involving Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo north, and Air Peace.
Air Peace had accused Oshiomhole of disrupting its airport operations after missing a scheduled flight.
But Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo state, denied the claim, saying he stood firm against “extortion and arbitrary” policy changes by the airline.
Agbomhere said the situation reflects a broader pattern of inefficiencies and poor customer service in the country’s aviation industry, which has persisted due to weak enforcement of regulations by the NCAA.
“It is disheartening to see local airlines operate in a manner that leaves passengers vulnerable and frustrated, often without consequences,” he said.
“The recent experience of senator Oshiomhole is just one example of the broader challenges Nigerians face when travelling by air.”
Agbomhere said NCAA must take urgent steps to reassert its regulatory authority and restore public confidence in the aviation sector.
“There are several reports by Nigerians against the airline, but these complaints keep being swept under the carpet and thereby emboldening the airline to continue acting as if there is no regulator in the sector in Nigeria,” he said.
He also appealed to Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, to intervene by mandating an investigation into the incident.
“While calling for a total overhaul of the NCAA, I am also issuing a one-week ultimatum from the day of the release of this statement to the management of Air Peace to take action by carrying out an immediate investigation into the matter and sanctioning all its staff involved in the incident,” he said.
“This is not just about one person. It’s about the thousands of Nigerians who face similar experiences regularly but do not have the platform to speak out. We need to fix the system so that the rights of all passengers are respected.”
The APC chieftain asked NCAA to strengthen its oversight functions and ensure that airlines are held accountable when they fail to meet basic service standards.
