At the same time, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka demanded the opposition's involvement in the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kalonzo addressed a letter to President William Ruto after the latter was served with the final shortlist of the nominees likely to be the chairperson of the electoral body.

The president is slated to nominate from the final shortlist and forward it to the National Assembly for approval.

In his letter, Kalonzo argued that a lack of the opposition's input will indicate a commission that will be partisan and one without the public's trust.

The former vice president was concerned that the selection process bypassed the recommendations in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which stipulated that both the government and the opposition correspond in forming the new IEBC.

Kalonzo pointed out that Raila Odinga's pact with Ruto would not substitute the NADCO report, as the former was no longer substantively in the opposition due to the memorandum of understanding the ODM and UDA parties signed in March.

He demanded that his team be served with the selection panel's exit report to assess the just-concluded recruitment of the new electoral body's team.
