The Andhra Pradesh government has forged a significant partnership with US-based chipmaker Nvidia through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration is aimed at substantially developing the state's Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem. Key components of the agreement include the development of a proposed AI University in Andhra Pradesh, comprehensive AI-related skills training, fostering research, building necessary infrastructure, and providing robust support for AI-focused startups.

A major aspect of this initiative involves training approximately 10,000 engineering students across the state in AI over the next two years. Nvidia will play a crucial role by assisting with curriculum guidance and providing essential technical resources to engineering colleges. The MoU also outlines ambitious plans to enhance AI research capabilities within the state. Nvidia will collaborate with the government to establish research centres dedicated to addressing technological challenges and advancing sector-specific AI solutions. Joint research efforts are also being actively considered.

Furthermore, the collaboration includes the development of computational infrastructure for the proposed AI University. Nvidia will offer its expertise by providing input on suitable software platforms and hardware systems. Highlighting the strategic importance of this partnership, State IT Minister Nara Lokesh stated that the collaboration is intended to support the state's broader goals of technological skill-building and entrepreneurship. Echoing this sentiment, Nvidia's Managing Director for Asia South, Vishal Dhupar, remarked that this effort could serve as a valuable reference point for similar initiatives elsewhere in India.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the MoU, emphasizing the state's commitment to leading India's AI revolution. In a statement, he highlighted, "Under the leadership of Hon'ble IT Minister @naralokesh Garu, we have entered into an MoU with @nvidia to build a strong and inclusive AI ecosystem in the state." He further added, "With support from NVIDIA for curriculum and training, 10,000 engineering students will receive skill training over the next two years, while 500 AI startups from AP will gain access to its Inception Program for global exposure and key resources."

The agreement also specifically mentions the possibility of up to 500 AI-focused startups from Andhra Pradesh being supported in applying to Nvidia's Inception Programme. This programme offers valuable access to technical resources and business networks, although participation will depend on eligibility and availability. Chief Minister Naidu also reiterated that plans are underway to establish India's first AI University in collaboration with Nvidia, aiming to significantly shape the infrastructure and research capabilities in the field. He concluded, "From education and skilling to research and innovation, this initiative is laying the foundation for a Swarna Andhra Pradesh."

While the primary focus of the MoU with Nvidia is on Artificial Intelligence, it's noteworthy that Andhra Pradesh is also actively working towards developing its broader technological landscape. The state government has previously announced the development of India's first Quantum Computing Village, a 50-acre facility in Amaravati. This village is envisioned as a pioneering ecosystem for quantum computing research and collaboration, where institutions and companies can access and share advanced quantum computing resources, and will include a dedicated on-site data centre. IBM and TCS are expected to jointly finalize infrastructure specifications, with the initial setup planned to host the IBM Quantum System Two. This initiative, though distinct from the AI partnership with Nvidia, underscores the state's comprehensive approach to technological advancement.
