Anambra Police Command Arrests Two Suspects For Burning Army Vehicle In Enugwu-Agu Community

Their arrest comes weeks after a similar attack in Isuofia, Agubata LGA, where gunmen stormed a security checkpoint, killing one operative and burning an operational vehicle.

The Nigerian police operatives in Awka, Anambra State have arrested two suspects who allegedly took part in an attack on security operatives and the burning of an Army operational vehicle in Enugwu-Agu village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The two suspects — Uche Egwu, 35, and Jindo Onyeka, 32 — were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu during a follow-up investigation into the 13th April 2025 incident where armed individuals launched an unprovoked attack on police and military personnel and some community stakeholders.

Their arrest comes weeks after a similar attack in Isuofia, Agubata LGA, where gunmen stormed a security checkpoint, killing one operative and burning an operational vehicle.

In that incident, according to SaharaReporters, two attackers were shot dead by a joint security team and a Toyota Sienna vehicle was recovered at the scene.

This was contained in a statement signed by Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the situation as a grave and deliberate act to test the will of the security agencies and "as an attack on the soul of a mation.”

“He charged the operatives to expand the scope of their investigation for the possible arrest of other fleeing suspects.

He further emphasised the need for collective action to protect those who safeguard the nation.”

“This unpatriotic act is seen as a test of the collective resolve of Ndi Anambra working with security forces to dislodge these criminal elements,” the CP said.

“We remain undeterred and will not rest until those behind this attack are apprehended.”

He added that “the Command is actively pursuing the perpetrators and will ensure they are brought to justice.”

Ikenga also noted that “further updates will be provided as investigations and security operations continue.”
