President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the Commander in Chief Ball dressed to the nines in matching black and white outfits.
Melania wowed in a white column gown with black ribbon detailing at the neckline and waist, which then trailed down into a sash.
She wore a matching black choker.

Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance were also all dressed up for the occasion, with Usha outdoing her husband in this sparkling blue gown.
She wore her hair in a smooth, loose style behind her shoulders to let her dress be the centre of attention.

The two couples danced as the ball, which was one of three being held that evening, got underway in Washington DC.
These inaugural balls are hosted each election cycle to celebrate the start of the president's new term in office.

First Lady Melania Trump changed partners shortly into the evening, sharing a dance with a service member at the ball, which typically draws a military crowd.
She smiled at the young man as they danced and he looked thrilled to be leading the first lady on the dance floor.

President Donald Trump also shared a waltz with a service member, who looked a little nervous about her dance with one of the most powerful men in the world.
All eyes were on the pair as they took a turn around the dance floor.

Kai Trump gave her 1.1 million Instagram followers a peek at her outfit for the inaugural ball before heading to the event, which was held in her grandfather President Donald Trump's honour.
She revealed on YouTube that the sparkling silver dress, which usually retails for about $US1800 (approx. $2800) was sent to her by American designer Sherri Hill and was one of three gowns the brand gifted her for the inauguration festivities.

Billy Ray Cyrus was among the performers at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, one of three balls held at the Washington Convention Center on the evening after President Trump's inauguration.
He hit the stage in cowboy boots tucked into grey skinny jeans, a black shirt emblazoned with the American flag, and a black jacket.
He also had a scarf around his neck and one tied around each leg that seemed to be printed with the US flag.

Cyrus also whipped out a guitar during his performance which appeared to be hand-decorated with stars and other doodles.
One looked like an owl in flight, another was a heart, and the third seemed to be a sketch of a musician - perhaps Cyrus himself - walking with a guitar in hand.

Actor Jon Voight was photographed among the arrivals at the Commander in Chief inaugural ball, which is typically attended by military service members and other supporters of the newly sworn-in president.
Voight wore classic attire for the evening, pairing a black jacket, coat and bow tie with a white evening scarf.

Later in the night, Voight was spotted posing for a selfie with a Trump supporter and American musician Kid Rock (centre).
The singer, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, wore a plain black suit and bow tie for the ball but added some flair to his outfit with a black fedora and dark sunglasses.

American country singer Jason Aldean was also on the slate of entertainment acts at the Liberty Ball.
He wore all-black head to toe and of course completed his look with a cowboy hat.

Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner cut a stunning figure as they stepped out for the occasion.
While Kushner opted for a tasteful tuxedo, Ivanka stunned in a Givenchy haute couture gown.
The white strapless gown with a high-low he mline featured black embroidered floral details across the bodice and on the skirt.
She paired the look with a pair of black opera gloves, black pumps and a diamond necklace.

Ivanka was all smiles as she and Kushner glided across the dance floor.
Her perfectly coiffed hair seemed unmoved despite the dancing.

Donald Trump Jr. also took to the dance floor at the ball and was accompanied by an adorable dance partner- his daughter Chloe.
The pair smiled as Trump Jr. twirled his daughter in a pirouette.
The youngster wore a sweet white and gold dress complete with a large gold bow.

Trump's third son Eric Trump and his wife Lara Trump also made an appearance at the event.
Eric opted for a tuxedo while Lara opted for a crimson gown.
The strapless gown featured a structured bodice and what appears to be a satin waistband.
