Ojwang, 31, was beaten to death while in police custody at the Nairobi Central Station, hours after his arrest at his Kokwanyo home in Homa Bay county.
Initially, the family had vowed not to bury him until justice was served.
However, in a recent interview on the Obinna TV Show on Monday, June 23, they confirmed that Ojwang will be laid to rest on Friday, July 4, 2025.
A requiem mass is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, with the venue to be confirmed, though it will be held in Nairobi.
John Okwanyo, a nephew of the deceased, called on Kenyans to mark the dates, noting that the burial will take place in Kakoth Village, Kokwanyo Location, Rachuonyo East Sub-county, Homa Bay county, near Nyawango Primary or Junior/Senior Schools.
"He will be buried on July 4, 2025, a significant date for the family, and they urge Kenyans to take note to allow those wishing to attend to prepare accordingly," he clarified.
The family has welcomed all Kenyans, particularly the Gen Z community, to stand with them during the farewell.
As of now, the family has received KSh 5.6 million in contributions, including donations from President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
They clarified that Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo, has not accessed the funds and that all contributions remain intact.

Activist Hanifa Adan outlined key funeral expenses, including costs for the requiem mass, burial ceremony, transport, security, floral decorations, hearse services, family accommodation, public address system, and media coverage.
"We are currently working on the funeral budget, considering Albert's public profile. We are preparing to host 3,000 people or more and offer them refreshments at home. Based on this, we have estimated the overall budget to be around KSh 4.5 million," said Okwanyo.
However, the family is still finalising some logistics, such as whether Ojwang’s body will be transported by road or air to Homa Bay.
Additionally, the family has appealed to the public to approach Ojwang’s grieving father with sensitivity and restraint during this difficult time.
Albert Ojwang's family swindled KSh 500k
Meanwhile, Ojwang’s uncle, Polycarp Odhiambo, has revealed a distressing development that has deepened the family’s grief.
He disclosed that Ojwang’s father recently attempted to withdraw funeral funds, but faced challenges due to a lack of identification.
Upon seeking assistance from Safaricom, the family discovered that someone had fraudulently withdrawn over KSh 500,000, along with KSh 17,000 of the father's savings.
According to the family, the stolen funds had been specifically raised through the Sisi kwa Sisi initiative led by Eric Omondi.
