His widow, Nevnina Onyango, was there to bid him farewell, and she gave a moving tribute.
However, the mother of one refused to throw soil in his grave, and this has ignited mixed reactions.
Kisumu-based pastor George Anyul criticised Nevnina's decision not to throw soil in Albert's grave.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Anyul argued that the young lady should have thrown soil in Albert's grave just like his parents did.
The Baolive Church founder explained that the ritual is a way of honouring your loved one and doesn't imply anything negative.
Anyul disagreed with Nevnina and lectured her about the common ritual.
"Throwing soil in a grave is just a simple act of respect to the dead. Or someone you loved. It has nothing to do with our culture or Christianity. I disagree with her. Why? Since the unfolding event of Albert's, she has been in the limelight as the wife. We have stood by her, I sent some cash to her when "Sisi Kwa Sisi" from Eric brought the issue. I'm disappointed that she didn't comply. Very unfortunate," he said.

Anyul didn't stop at that. He also expressed his disappointment on his Facebook page.
He argued that her decision not to throw soil has raised many questions.
"Whoever advised her did wrong; when she appeared to the public as the late Albert Ojwang's wife. We were content and didn't want to know anything beyond. Yesterday, she refused to fulfil burial rites as the wife, now, too many questions remain unanswered," Anyul wrote on Facebook.
His post attracted massive reactions, with many netizens defending Nevnina.
Here are some comments:
Akinyi Ogada:
"But she’s too young to commit to a dead husband 🙄🙄. She got blood in the veins mailod 🙄. You all should let the lady breathe, with those pouring soil staff!. It’s 2025."
Juliette Francie:
"The lady is still too young yawa... Even if she remarries, I believe she won't leave Albert's parents. At least they will have a grandson left."
Sospeter Okoth Okusah:
"Which burial rites surely....what does throwing soil signify...does it make the dead leave peacefully?... what Christian rite did she violate Pope George Anyul?"
Mercy Ouma:
"The lady is still young and he has a life to live, mark you, they never paid the dowry."
Rachel Owino:
"Even if we leave, it's till death do you part, you don't relate as husband and wife after death."
Consalis Ngii
"If she were your daughter, at such an age, would you advise her to be tied by tradition?"
Thomas Opiyo:
"By putting soil, she is tied to Albert, though she is still young. According to Luo culture, Albert had never stepped into their home. She is now free and in the market after 40 days. Life must continue."
