ALBA BERLIN in 2025-26 Basketball Champions League

ALBA BERLIN, the 22-time German champion and cup winner, will participate in the 2025-26 season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL). This marks the club's return to European competitions organized by FIBA after 24 years in Euroleague Basketball tournaments, including 12 seasons in the EuroLeague and 12 in the EuroCup/ULEB Cup. From 1990-91 to 2000-01, ALBA BERLIN played eleven seasons in FIBA competitions, famously winning the Korac Cup in 1995.
The addition of ALBA BERLIN is expected to strengthen the BCL and support FIBA's vision for reshaping the club competition ecosystem. This decision also follows the joint FIBA and NBA announcement on March 27 regarding the exploration of a new professional men’s basketball league in Europe.
Marco Baldi, Managing Director of ALBA BERLIN, stated that joining the Basketball Champions League represents an exciting new chapter and a response to the changing landscape of European basketball. He acknowledged the club's long tradition with the EuroLeague but noted that conditions for securing a EuroLeague spot have changed significantly. ALBA BERLIN aims to help shape the future of European basketball with a focus on financial sustainability, collaboration, and the development of the sport. The club is confident that FIBA-led European competitions will grow significantly.
Patrick Comninos, CEO of the Basketball Champions League, emphasized that welcoming ALBA BERLIN is a significant milestone as the competition approaches its 10th season. He reiterated the BCL's commitment to offering a high-quality competition and delivering FIBA's strategic priorities. Comninos highlighted ALBA BERLIN's rich tradition, achievements, state-of-the-art arena, grassroots program, and vibrant basketball community, considering Berlin a key market for the BCL's long-term vision.
In Germany, Basketball Champions League games are broadcast live by DYN. The current 2024-25 season features 32 clubs from 16 countries, competing in a format that includes the Regular Season, Play-Ins, Round of 16, and Quarter-Finals. AEK Athens, Galatasaray, Unicaja, and La Laguna Tenerife are the remaining teams battling for the 2025 title in the BCL Final Four in Athens.
The group draw for the 2025-26 season will take place on July 2 in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the new season commencing on October 7, 2025.
