Akintola, Amusan, others excel in U.S. meets
A member of Team Nigeria to the Paris Olympics, United States-based sprinter, Alaba Akintola, at the weekend, blazed the track in 20.50 seconds to dominate the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
The Nigerian sprint star looks ready to make a statement in the fast approaching World Relays in China, where he is listed for the Men’s 4x100m relay alongside Karlington Anunagba, Udodi Onwuzurike, Fola Olaaya, Usheoritse Itsekiri and Favour Ashe.
World Record holder, Tobi Amusan, improved on her Season’s Best (SB) from last week to take the fourth place in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.66s at the Keqiao Diamond League.
Grace Stark took the victory in a Meeting Record (MR) of 12.42s over Jamaica’s Danielle Williams (12.55s) and South Africa’s Marion Fourie (12.62s). Tima Godbless ran a superb 100m race, clocking 11.12s (0.9m/s) to finish second overall at the LSU Invitational, Baton Rouge, but Rosemary Chukwuma ran 11.37s to finish 7th and 10th overall (H1 and H2 combined).
Chukwuma is among the athletes listed in Team Nigeria’s squad for the World Relays slated for May 10 and 11 in China.
