The Nigerian government is actively collaborating with the Republic of Armenia to facilitate the safe evacuation of its citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran, utilizing Yerevan as a transit point. This crucial effort, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Saturday, has reached an advanced stage of preparation. The decision to plan an emergency evacuation was made two days prior, following a significant escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, impacting Nigerian citizens residing in both nations.

The commitment to this evacuation plan was strongly reiterated by Abdulrasheed Omar Lawal, the Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Iran, during a recent meeting with Mr. Levon Petrosyan, the Acting Director of the Middle East and Africa department within the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This meeting underscored the direct engagement and coordination between the two nations on this humanitarian initiative.

Nigeria has expressed profound appreciation for Armenia’s compassionate gesture, emphasizing that such an act highlights the critical importance of international solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, especially during times of crisis.
