AIIMS Delhi Recognized Among World's Best Hospitals by Newsweek

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has achieved a significant milestone, securing the 97th position in the World's Best Hospitals 2024 ranking by Newsweek and Statista. This recognition underscores AIIMS Delhi's commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare, promoting medical research, and ensuring affordable treatment options for a vast number of patients.
The Newsweek-Statista ranking, now in its sixth edition, evaluated over 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries, assessing them based on patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, hygiene standards, and recommendations from healthcare professionals. AIIMS Delhi's top-100 placement highlights its pivotal role as a leader in India's healthcare sector, celebrated for its advanced facilities and highly skilled medical staff since its establishment in 1956.
Other Indian hospitals have also been recognized on the global list. Medanta - The Medicity in Gurgaon secured the 146th rank, acknowledged for its innovative technology and expertise in specialties such as cardiology, oncology, and organ transplantation. Since its establishment in 2009, Medanta has gained recognition as a reliable name in private healthcare, providing world-class services. Additionally, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh ranked 228th, commended for its contributions to medical education, research, and specialized care. Founded in 1962, PGIMER remains a crucial healthcare and training center in northern India.
The inclusion of these Indian hospitals in the global ranking highlights India's increasing prominence in the healthcare industry. As AIIMS Delhi, Medanta, and PGIMER continue to maintain high standards, they reinforce India's capacity to provide world-class medical care.
In related news, on March 25, India achieved a significant breakthrough by developing its first indigenous MRI machine, which is scheduled to be installed at AIIMS Delhi by October for trials. This initiative aims to lower treatment expenses and decrease reliance on imported medical devices, as currently, 80-85% of such equipment is imported. The indigenous MRI machine is expected to enhance India's self-sufficiency in medical technology.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AIIMS and the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), an autonomous R&D laboratory in Mumbai under the Department of Electronics, Government of India, for the installation of the 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner.
