AI Tool Translates Dog Barks into Human Language

Baidu is developing AI to translate animal sounds into human language. The company has filed a patent with the National Intellectual Property Administration for this technology. This AI-powered tool analyzes voice, body language, and behaviors to interpret animal emotions and convert them into human language.

For many pet owners, understanding what their dogs and cats are trying to communicate can be challenging. Baidu's AI aims to ease this problem by providing a high-tech translation system that collects data from the animal, including voice, body language, behavioral changes, and other biological signs.

The AI application determines the animal's emotion by analyzing this data and then converts it into a target human language. According to the patent document, the system would enable deeper emotional communication and understanding between animals and humans, improving the efficiency of cross-species communication.

A Baidu spokesperson stated that there has been significant interest in the patent application but cautioned that the project is currently in the research phase. The spokesperson added, "As an AI company, we constantly look to apply new technologies across diverse use cases."

The patent was submitted in December and publicly published earlier this week. This is not the first attempt to decode animal voices. Various apps claim to offer pet-to-human translations; however, many are poorly rated and considered rudimentary. In 2014, a Scandinavian research lab raised over Rs 18.7 lakh ($22,000) for a device called No More Woof, but the project became too expensive to continue three years later.
