Adum fire: 2 persons injured including a firefighter - Head of PR, GNFS
According to Mr. Ackah, the firefighter got injured in an attempt to salvage a property while a debri fell on the head of the other victim. Both have been treated and are in stable condition.
“The unfortunate news is that one of our men got injured whiles savaging some property and another citizen also injured. A debri fell on his head and he was rushed to the hospital. I understand they are both in stable condition,” he noted in an interview on JoyNews, Friday, March 21, 2025.
Meanwhile, Desmond Ackah has disclosed that the fire has been put under control. He said personnel of the GNFS are now dealing with pockets of the fire to ensure that it is totally doused.
He called for calm as he says the there’s no cause for alarm.
“We have fought tremendously well to bring this fire under control. What it means is that the situation is out of danger, there is no cause for alarm now. What we are currently doing is what we term overhaul, just to get to the various pockets of fire to ensure that we extinguish the fire totally,” he said.
A huge fire outbreak at Adum, located in the heart of the Central Business District of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, destroyed several shops and properties.
The inferno, which started in the early hours of Friday [March 21] morning, spread rapidly to adjacent shops, causing significant losses for business owners.
Some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage wares. They threw caution to the wind despite warnings from the police and firefighters to stay away.
President Mahama visited the scene on Friday, March 21.
Speaking after fire officers briefed him on what happened, the President said “I have directed NADMO to assist affected traders, that is in the interim. We will also discuss with the Chief of staff together with the Ashanti Regional Minister to also support the traders.
