Activist Petitions Inspector-General Egbetokun, Lagos Governor Over Woman Adijat Allegedly Killed For Rituals | Sahara Reporters
In a separate petition dated May 6, 2025, Bingham also highlighted the need to address the superstition that wealth can be obtained through ritual attacks and human sacrifice, which she believes is prevalent among young people in Lagos and surrounding areas.
Human rights advocate, Mary Bingham has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging them to ensure justice for Adijat Pereira, a victim of alleged ritual attack and human sacrifice.
In a separate petition dated May 6, 2025, Bingham also highlighted the need to address the superstition that wealth can be obtained through ritual attacks and human sacrifice, which she believes is prevalent among young people in Lagos and surrounding areas.
SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that the bereaved mother, Bilikisu Adisa cried out in anguish, accusing her late daughter’s boyfriend of using her for suspected money rituals in Lagos.
The heartbroken mother recounted the chilling events leading up to her daughter's tragic death in a tearful interview.
The victim, Adijat Adisa, was only 25 years old — full of dreams and life — before her life was cut short under suspicious circumstances.
Bingham in the petition emphasised the importance of holding one Omotolani Taiwo, the alleged killer, fully accountable for the crime.
"As an advocate closely following tragic cases of Sexual and Spiritual Abuse, which often result in the deaths of innocent victims, I am writing to you regarding the heartbreaking death of Adijat Pereira. It is imperative that justice is served to her alleged killer, Omotolani Sunday Taiwo, so that Adijat's family may eventually find some solace as they navigate their lifelong grief," she said.
"Advocates worldwide are watching how your agencies will ensure that Omotolani Sunday Taiwo is held fully accountable for this crime," she wrote.
Bingham urged both the police and the government to take immediate and decisive action to bring justice to Adijat Pereira's family.
She also stressed the need for long-term educational initiatives to change the mindsets of young people who believe in the false notion that wealth could be obtained through human sacrifice.
"While long-term educational initiatives are crucial to change these mindsets over time, immediate and decisive action must be taken by law enforcement and government agencies," she stated.
The advocate's call for justice and action comes as concerns about ritual attacks and human sacrifice continue to grow in Nigeria.
Bingham's efforts are supported by organisations such as Advocacy for Alleged Witches and End Witch Hunts.
