Accra, June 17, GNA – The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) has launched a 12-week Ghana-China Media Fellowship to enhance media practitioners’ understanding of Africa-China relations, particularly Ghana’s ties with China.
The programme, which targets 15 journalists selected from over 200 applicants, includes lectures on Ghana-China relations, Chinese language instruction, industrial visits, and peer engagement with experts.
Madam Sylvia Sinkari, Head of Projects at ACCPA, described the initiative as the first of its kind, aimed at deepening participants’ capacity for informed reporting, public engagement, and research.
She said that the Ghana-China Media Fellowship 2025 would provide media practitioners with in-depth lectures on Ghana-China relations, Chinese language instruction, industrial visits, and a community of media peers and experts.
Mr Paul Frimpong, Executive Director, ACCPA, provided a historical overview of China, describing it as “the oldest civilization in the world.”
He outlined major eras from the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties through to the formation of the People’s Republic of China.
Frimpong noted that one could not understand why China acts the way it does until they knew about the country’s history and foundation.
Yuan Jing from the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana introduced participants to Chinese Characters and Pinyin, emphasising the importance of language in fostering accurate reporting and stronger Ghana-China engagement.
