Renowned actor Abel Mutua has disclosed how he had to let go of his ego and asked then-girlfriend Judy Nyawira for transport money.

While appearing on the Dr Ofweneke podcast, the star, who wears many hats in his career, shared how he met his wife and knew that he would marry her.

Abel revealed he met Judy while both were students at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) and at the time Judy was trying to get out of another relationship.

The thespian was then an actor on Tahidi High TV show, which aired on Citizen TV, but for Judy that was something she'd never heard of.

"In 2007, I meet this chic fresh out of Karatina and she asks me 'why are guys obsessing over you'? And I'm trying to explain to her I'm on a show Tahidi High, and she's like 'What's Tahidi High?' She did not know. And that's when I knew she loves me, I knew for a fact she is a gem," he said.

Being a girl from the rural area, Abel knew that Judy was a woman who would take care of a family and did not want to lose her.

The scriptwriter also shared on their first date, which he revealed was at a local hotel, not fancy at all.

Abel said he was acting on TV but had no money to flaunt, so he decided to do what he could.

He narrated that he had to gain confidence to borrow money from her after he was stranded without fare to go for a Tahidi High shoot.

"That first time I remember asking her for money to go and shoot Tahidi. It must have been around the end of 2008, It was like one year. Babe I'm sorry, (He said when asked if he paid back) but look where we are now," he said.

Abel said that friends discouraged him from pursuing Judy because she had someone in her life.

The content creator said any time he would hang out with Judy, she would eventually face physical abuse from her ex-boyfriend who did not want to see her with anyone else.

Despite it being difficult for her to leave, it got to a place where she decided she had had enough of the abuse and sought refuge in Abel.

A few weeks back, TUKO.co.ke reported how Abel expressed his love and admiration for his wife.

Speaking on the Man Talk podcast, Abel said he knew Judy was the one as soon as she came into his life.

He added that a wife should be a husband's best friend and despite the normal brawls, one should have it in the back of their mind that they can't do without each other.
