Part of the A46 in Warwickshire is expected to be closed for several hours after a serious multi-vehicle crash involving a lorry and a van, National Highways has warned.
The road has been shut southbound between the A45 for Coventry and the A452 for Kenilworth.
Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service have been working at the scene following the crash which happened at about 03:30 BST.
National Highways said police investigations were taking place.
Traffic has been diverted via local routes.
Highways managers in Coventry warned of heavy traffic on the A45 in both directions approaching the Leamington Road roundabout.
The A429 - which could have been a diversion route - is closed until the end of the month for HS2 works between the Gibbet Hill roundabout in Coventry and Crackley Lane in Kenilworth.
