A's celebrate groundbreaking for new ballpark on Las Vegas Strip - Yahoo Sports
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Athletics are celebrating a ceremonial groundbreaking Monday morning at their Las Vegas ballpark.
The new stadium, which will be located at Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, the former site of the iconic Tropicana hotel, is estimated to cost $1.75 billion. The majority of the money will come from the Fisher family, which owns the A’s, as well as public and private funding.

Construction crews are already working on the property. Monday’s ceremony is the result of four years of work to bring Major League Baseball to Las Vegas.
“People just don’t understand everything that went into just getting to today,” A’s Owner and President Mark Badain said.
“You can say enough about how hard John Fisher and his team have worked to get here, design a stadium that’s going to be great for fans, and design a stadium that really fits in Las Vegas,” said MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr.
The 30,000-seat ballpark will also include standing room for another 3,000 spectators and will open for the 2028 season, which gives the team around 1,000 days to complete the project.

The ballpark will be spread over nine of the 26 acres at the site and will have an 18,000-square-foot Jumbotron, the largest in Major League Baseball. There will also be a new resort, entertainment spaces, and retail shopping.
“Las Vegas is such a unique market, not only do you have this incredibly strong group of local fans, but you also have the Strip, which generates 45 million visitors a year,” so we think there is incredible opportunity from fans all over the country and all over the world to come to Las Vegas to watch their team play the A’s. We hope that — over time — we will convince those fans to become A’s fans,” Badain said.
Fans looking to get ahead on tickets can secure a spot to purchase future A’s seats with a $19.01 deposit, which is a nod to the year the franchise was founded. The Athletics started in Philadelphia and won five World Series in the City of Brotherly Love. The team then played in Kansas City and then moved to Oakland in 1968. They just finished their final season there.
