Clematis by Night, the city's recurring Thursday night gathering downtown, has been cancelled for Jan. 23 due to unseasonably cold and somewhat wet weather, according to West Palm Beach's website.
The event is often billed as a great way to 'chill out' as the weekday comes to a close, but temperatures destined to peak in the mid-60s at 3 p.m. and then tumble to near 57 by 9 p.m. on their way into the 40s overnight, is apparently not what planners had in mind.
The cold is not what South Florida is used to, but so far it's not come close to record setting, unlike parts of Florida's Panhandle, where a freak winter storm plowed across the terrain delivering sleet, snow and freezing rain for hours.

A day of cold wind and rain did upend some other South Florida events. Palm Beach County school district soccer matches were moved Wednesday from evening play times to earlier in the day, the Palm Beach Post sports department reported.
Clematis by Night, held in the 100 block of Clematis Street and on the city's Great Lawn was to feature Zydeco music from Terrance Simien. Check the city's websites for updates.
