If your family celebrates Christmas, you may be gearing up for Christmas in July or already counting down the days until December 25. But while you wait for your Elf on the Shelf to return to your home, there’s a new book coming that shares a festive untold origin story.

On September 16, 2025, The Lumistella Company, which launched The Elf on the Shelf Santaverse, is releasing The Rise of Nicholas the Noble. It’s aimed for middle grade readers, ages 8-12.

The Rise of Nicholas the Noble tells the tale of Santa Claus—aka Saint Nicholas. The story follows young Nicholas on a magical journey of courage, belief, and the fight for moral goodness. Nicholas and his trusted dog, Barry, are tasked with rescuing the enchanted, and endangered, land of One True North from Gangleri. That’s a powerful yet evil force seeking to fill One True North, and the rest of the universe, with greed and hate.

The only way Nicholas can protect One True North is through the Lumistella Stone, a shard of an ancient Christmas star that had fallen from the sky many years before. Kids will get to see if Nicholas finds the power, and more importantly the belief, to restore joy and kindness to One True North.

Chanda A. Bell, the co-creator of the Elf on the Shelf, is the author of the holiday-themed book. In addition to The Rise of Nicholas the Noble, Chanda co-authored the bestseller The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition, and has published multiple other children’s books.

Also the founder, co-CEO, and chief creative officer of The Lumistella Company, Bell along with her mom, Carol Aebersold, brought their family elf tradition to the mainstream in 2005. Elf on the Shelf continues to bring memory, storytelling, and family connection to children and parents around the world. Many families have since been getting creative with their Elf on the Shelf, putting together some epic arrival ideas.

If you’re interested in getting into the holiday spirit a little early, The Rise of Nicholas the Noble, published by HarperPop, a division of HarperCollins Children’s Books, is available to pre–order as of July 1, 2025. Additionally, if you buy the book and submit a copy of your receipt you will receive an exclusive Santaverse snow globe ornament and a limited-edition art print by illustrator Michael Austin.
