Stephen King, the prolific horror writer behind iconic, haunting tales like It, Misery, The Shining and Carrie, has not been shy about sharing his opinions on other horror media. On his X account, among pictures of his beloved corgi, whom he lovingly calls "the thing of evil," King has graciously shared his opinions on multiple fabulous horror shows.
These shows are tension-filled, action-packed and beautifully shot. But above all, they're creepy enough to garner the adoration of the King of Horror. Although he's now sworn off X, thankfully, these titles are all still available to watch on Netflix.
Yellowjackets centers on a high school girls' soccer team after their plane crashes in the wilderness and they're forced to claw their way to survival. The series shows just how resourceful, complicated and ruthless teenage girls can be when pushed to their limit.
YELLOWJACKETS is a hell of a good survival story, a hell of a good mystery story, and has its fair share of horrifying moments. What it's also got--so many current shows don't--is sharp characterization and a mordant sense of humor.

King called Yellowjackets "a hell of a good survival story" with a gripping mystery and a biting sense of humor. One storyline follows the girls as they brave the wilderness and the other follows the grown-up versions of the characters who've been haunted by their unresolved trauma and perhaps a malevolent entity that latched onto them during their time in the woods.

The Haunting of Hill House, a TV miniseries created by horror director Mike Flanagan, is a reimagining of Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name. Where Jackson's story is focused on a group of people who spend time in a supposedly haunted mansion as part of a study, Flanagan's series tells the story of a family whose lives have been changed by the traumatic experiences they go through in the aforementioned house.
King had high praise for Flanagan's adaptation, saying that he thinks Jackson would approve. He even goes so far as to say that The Haunting of Hill House is "close to a work of genius."

35 Years Later, This Stephen King Adaptation Is Still 1 of the Best Thrillers Ever
Stephen King's stories have been adapted into countless films, but one in particular has remained one of the best for decades.

King complimented the artistry behind Black Summer, a horror-thriller set during the early days of a zombie apocalypse. Showrunners and creators John Hyams and Karl Schaefer got props for their artistry, which avoids needlessly drawn-out dialogue and unnecessary flashbacks.
Fans also lauded the series for being an anxiety-ridden, dread-soaked, non-stop action ride interspersed with moments of eerie stillness. The zombies aren't as easy to squash as some in other undead sagas, and the other humans are almost as much of a threat to be reckoned with.

Another horror story told by Flanagan on the small screen, Midnight Mass tells a tale of a terrifying, ancient vampire who has been brought to a small island by a priest. Featuring standout performances from Zach Gilford, Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater and Kate Siegel (who happens to be married to Flanagan), the series follows the priest's journey and the lives of the island-dwellers who are touched by it. The true horror comes not from the intimidating creature but from its unnerving look at human nature and the tragic realities that become part of the human experience.
King praised Midnight Mass, calling it a "dense, beautifully photographed terror tale that climbs to a high pitch of horror by the 7th and last episode." Although there's just one season, the story is fully-fledged and neatly tied up within the 7-episode run.

Midnight Mass is Mike Flanagan’s Best Work (So Far)
Since 2000, writer & director Mike Flanagan has been terrifying audiences (and making them think) with top-notch horror movies and TV series. While most of Flanagan’s work is good to excellent, one stands above the rest (in my humble opinion). Midnight Mass represents the best of both halves of Flanagan’s interests serving as both a dread-filled fright fest and a brilliant contemplation of life, death, and spirituality. What’s your favorite Flanagan movie or TV show?
King called for more of the horror-thriller series Evil from creators Michelle and Robert King (no relation to the author) who are also behind acclaimed dramas The Good Wife and The Good Fight. In Evil, a psychologist, a scientist, and a soon-to-be priest look into unexplained unusual happenings around the church. The series has a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and fans say that the twisty mysteries, chemistry between characters, and mix of drama and dry humor keep them engaged. The procedural may even scratch an itch for fans of Mulder and Scully's dynamics and investigations in The X-Files.
In an interview with PBS, King called out Evil among some of his guilty pleasures:
"There’s a show called Evil on Paramount+ that I like. It’s great. It’s funny and it’s witty and it’s very, very sharp."
King even used his X account to ask Paramount+ to renew the show for a fifth season. Katja Herbers, who plays the psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard in the show, was pleased with King's plea for a renewal after the show was put on pause last February after four seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix, and seasons 4 and 5 are available on Paramount+.
