Popular Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, has tendered an apology following his controversial comment that men are not biologically wired to stick to one woman sexually.

The veteran artiste made the apology in a video shared via his Instagram page on Tuesday, a day after his appearance on the 234 Mzansi podcast hosted by Nedu Wazobia and others.

In the now-viral podcast episode, 2Baba had stirred reactions after stating that while a man may love and respect one woman, sexual exclusivity remains a tough challenge because of his “natural biology.”

“I’ve said this before, and I got into trouble for it, but I don’t care to say it again: man was not built to be sexually with just one woman,” he had said.

The 49-year-old music icon, who is often regarded as a legend in the Nigerian music industry, admitted in the apology video that he poorly expressed himself and took full responsibility for the backlash.

“I know I’m going to get cancelled… I’m going to face the consequences… I fucked up what I said,” he said in the video.

He went on to apologise to his wife, Natasha Osawaru, and his children, saying they do not deserve to be dragged into the backlash.

“She’s amazing. She’s wonderful. She’s smart… I’m so sorry,” he said, referring to Natasha. “And also to my kids… they’re beautiful young people. I don’t deserve this kind of thing that I have to deal with.”

2Baba also acknowledged the hurt his words caused fans, his parents, and the many people who hold him in high regard.

“This is not me… I’m terribly sorry for allowing myself to get to that place. I own up to my mistakes,” he added.

During the podcast, he also confirmed that his marriage with actress Annie Idibia had ended, saying they both gave it their best, but it just didn’t work anymore.

“We have our understanding… it just wasn’t working anymore, that’s the simple truth,” he said.

He advised couples to be honest with themselves and not remain in unhappy marriages out of fear of public judgement.

“Many people have gone to their graves living in bondage,” he said.

Despite the backlash, 2Baba maintained that all the women in his life, including Annie and the mothers of his children are “amazing” and have their own strengths and uniqueness.

He said his current relationship with Natasha was based on character and emotional connection, not looks.

“If any woman disrespects me or does rubbish, I will walk away from her,” he stated.

2Baba also made it clear that he does not care about what people say about him online, insisting his focus is on the wellbeing of his children.
