2027: Outrage over Tinubu/Shettima ticket misplaced priority - APC USA
The Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), United States of America (USA) chapter, Prof. Tai Balofin, has faulted the outrage by a section of party stalwarts over an alleged ommission of Vice President Kashim Shettima from the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
In a statement on Tuesday, Balofin described it as a misplaced priority, warning that amplifying the issue could lead to discord within the party.
He insisted that the party’s leadership acted correctly by prioritising Tinubu’s candidacy, which is the foundation of the APC’s 2027 winning strategy.
Stressing the need to focus on supporting Tinubu’s leadership, he noted that Shettima’s contributions to the success of the APC-led administration remain invaluable and cannot be wished away.
Balofin emphasised that Tinubu, who is an astute political strategist, recognises Shettima’s critical role in maintaining regional balance and securing the APC’s prospects for 2027.
However, he remarked that Shettima is not running for president, and linking his omission to the endorsement is a distraction.
He said, “The APC stands united behind Tinubu, and attempts to portray this as a snub to Shettima are misguided. Let’s move forward, keeping our eyes on the goal: a strong presidential candidate for 2027.”
