A 20-year-old man, Chukwuezugo Igweobi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Amawbia Chief Magistrates’ Court in Awka over alleged illegal possession of firearm.
The prosecutor, ASP Aduaka Achunike, told the court that the defendant was arrested by police on July 23, 2024, on Awka-Amansea Road, Awka, Anambra.
Achunike said that the defendant was found in possession of one locally-made double barrette pistol, with live ammunition, without licence from the Inspector-General of Police.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.N. Ike, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case till April 2 for hearing. (NAN)
