Vigilantes have arrested two herders with an allegedly stolen ram at a cattle market in Abaji, Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
One of the vigilantes, Salihu Usman, said the herders had brought the ram on a bike to sell at the market when they were apprehended.
He said the owner of the animal came to report that his ram was stolen at a Fulani settlement in Bugakwo village in Kwali Area Council.
He said after the report, the vigilantes immediately alerted cattle dealers at the market about the stolen ram.
He said, ‘’As God will have it, two herders brought the ram this morning to sell and they were arrested.”
He said the owner of the ram was alerted, and he came to identify his ram, adding that the herders were later handed over to security personnel in the area. Our reporter learnt that a similar incident happened during the last Abaji market day when a suspect who brought a stolen goat to sell was apprehended by vigilantes.
The police in the area confirmed the arrest but declined further comment, referring our reporter to the FCT police command for details.
The spokeswoman of the command, Josephine Adeh, a CSP, could not be reached for comment as at press time.
