10 Annoying Horror Movie Characters Fans Still Can't Stand

Published 1 week ago7 minute read

The characters in horror movies can either make or break the film. They're completely disposable and unmemorable, serving merely as fodder for the killer or supernatural entity. Other characters are iconic, such as Ash Williams from The Evil Dead franchise or Sidney Prescott in Scream.

While there are many great characters in these films, there are others that get on the audience's last nerve. No one is disappointed when these annoying horror movie characters finally meet their fates.

Fede Álvarez's Don't Breathe follows three thieves who break into a veteran's home. They assume he will be easy to rob since he's old and blind. However, they quickly discover that he's lethal and has a dark history they didn't expect.

Alfred Hitchcock didn't want the ending or twist of Psycho to be spoiled for audiences. He went to extreme lengths to ensure that it didn't happen.

It's a safe bet that a thief with the nickname "Money" is going to be somewhat annoying. Daniel Zovatto's character in Don't Breathe definitely fits the bill. He makes impulsive decisions that often get the crew into trouble, and he shows a lack of respect for older adults. The audience feels kind of glad when he meets his fate via a pair of gardening shears.

"Because you were home." That's the chilling reason provided in The Strangers. A couple, played by Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler, are stalked and terrorized by three masked home invaders in an isolated cabin.

The Strangers is regarded as the Godfather of home invasion movies. Horror fans appreciate the film's creepy, realistic nature, but they also agree that Kristen, played by Liv Tyler, is an irksome character. She's extremely mopey and makes questionable decisions to try to survive.

Fishermen aren't necessarily scary. But when they're given a hook and a thirst for vengeance, they suddenly become a huge threat. The hooded assailant in I Know What You Did Last Summer is one to be feared. He hunts down the teenagers who left him for dead one by one.

Scream is an iconic slasher franchise, and there are even more movies that continue the feelings the hit movie evokes.

When it comes to the jock in horror, viewers won't find one more pompous and cold-hearted than Barry in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Barry has bleach blonde tips and an endless supply of sweaters. He's also the main reason the group engages in hit-and-run tactics. Their fates are almost entirely in his hands.

Online bullying is a serious problem. The teenagers in Unfriended learn that the hard way. Their incessant name-calling and mockery of a girl named Laura Burns comes back to haunt them (literally).

Unfriended is one of the most successful social media horror movies. Horror fans were impressed by the pacing and the framing of the story. The characters also seemed like real teenagers. The only one in the group who wasn't likable was the main character, Blaire. She's a bully who never takes responsibility for her actions.

How to Watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movies in Order

There are nine Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies centered around the cannibalistic serial killer Leatherface, but what's the proper watch order?

Franklin is tough to like. He whines and complains throughout most of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Viewers wonder why he's even there since he doesn't seem to really gel with the rest of the friend group. They, like the audience, seem to be merely tolerating him until he is finally killed by Leatherface.

The found footage genre experienced a resurgence after Paranormal Activity hit theaters. In the movie, a woman named Katie (Katie Featherston) has been haunted by a possessive spirit her entire life. Too bad her boyfriend Micah (Micah Sloat) doesn't believe her.

Micah has the kind of blasé attitude that grinds the gears of any horror fan. If he took Katie's claims of the supernatural seriously, they may have gotten the help they needed. His solution, and it's merely to satisfy his own curiosity, is to get a Ouija board, even though a psychic and Katie are against it.

Horror fans are critical of remakes. However, no one can deny that films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead are among the best.

Annie is just plain annoying in DASHCAM. She bombards the audience with her political musings and seems to think she's the smartest person in the room. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't offer interesting kills, cinematography, or anything else to make it worth tolerating her for an hour and twenty minutes.

Detective Hoffman smirks as he survives in the glass coffin in Saw V

In the Saw movies, a man named John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is dying from cancer and feels bitter towards those who take their lives for granted. He is presumably dead by Saw IV, but his spirit lives on in his predecessors, including Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor). The fourth film features a police lieutenant participating in the twisted game.

Everything went slightly off the rails in the Saw franchise after the third film. Jigsaw died from cancer, and he needed someone to take his place. Amanda (Shawnee Smith) could only do so much, so he recruited Detective Hoffman. Fans were not impressed with this character. He has no nuance or backstory, rendering him fairly forgettable.

Dani in Midsommar is dealing with a horrific tragedy after her sister kills herself and their parents via carbon monoxide poisoning. One would assume that her longtime boyfriend, Christian, would be a shoulder for her to cry on. Instead, he talks trash about her with his friends and later cheats on her on their trip to Sweden.

The Babadook is an elevated horror movie that explores grief and trauma. In the film, a widowed mother is doing her best to raise her six-year-old son, Samuel, after her husband is suddenly killed in a car accident. Her son's behavioral problems certainly don't make it easy.

With his grating, piercing scream and the bratty way he talks to his mother, it's no surprise that horror fans find Samuel in The Babadook annoying. In the young boy's defense, his behavior is the result of his father's recent passing. Additionally, he is being haunted by a menacing character from a children's book. It's enough to make anyone want to throw a tantrum.
