Yahoo too wants to buy Chrome

Buyers are lining up

Yahoo is internally developing a prototype for its own web browser and has announced that they would consider buying Google's browser Chrome if a future legal process requires Google to sell it. This is according to the publication The Verge

Yahoo emphasises that a potential acquisition of Chrome could lead to a significant increase in their search market share - from the current approximately 3 per cent to a double-digit level. The company estimates that the cost of an acquisition would be in the tens of billions of dollars, with financing potentially possible through their owner Apollo Global Management.

Alongside this, Yahoo has been working for an extended period, since last summer, on an internal browser prototype to explore the requirements for a market launch. The development work is expected to take between six and nine months, but a purchase of Chrome would mean a faster expansion compared to building an entirely new platform.
