After all of its ups and downs, reprises, and ultimate devastation for its enduring fans, the CBS tactical procedural drama, S.W.A.T. starring Emmy winner Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm Winters, The Young and the Restless), aired its eighth season and series finale last night on Friday May 16th.
In the finale entitled, “Return to Base” – The SWAT team undertakes its final mission when a violent crew of ex-pat Russian mercenaries holds Los Angeles hostage after planting hundreds of hidden explosives across the city in a bid to extort the release of their brutal leader, Dmitri Rykov. When Rykov is brought to SWAT for safekeeping, SWAT HQ comes under attack, forcing Hondo and 20-Squad to fight for their very survival, in the second part of the two-hour series finale of S.W.A.T.
So, how did S.W.A.T.‘s eight-season run ends? In the final scenes, Deacon gathered the team to give them a present, because he recently fell into a lot of money when his private security firm was contracted by a local developer, and he wants to spend some of it on the people he loves.

In a heart-tugging moment he gives a watch to Hondo, Tan, Gamble, Zoe, and Miko. He adds,”Recently, a wise man reminded me that SWAT officers are always running on borrowed time. I hope this will always be a reminder of every minute spent together on this team. It’s the greatest gift of all.”
Meanwhile, construction crews are working on rebuilding their headquarters, after the explosive firefight erupted agains the vicious Russian mercenaries and decimated it earlier in the episode. When a call comes in about an armed robbery with officers under fire, it’s Hondo who jumps into action telling the crew, “What are we waiting for?” Gear up. Let’s go save this city.” As they leave the building, they each place a hand against the SWAT logo on the wall for a nice touch.

This week, Maurice Johnson wrapped his run as the original Dr. Ted Richardson on the new CBS daytime drama, Beyond the Gates. The actors was replaced by Keith D. Robinson on-screen as of the Thursday, May 12th episode and is the first actor recast in the show’s young history.
What made the timing of the Ted swap a bit intriguing is Keith D. Robinson is taking over the role at a time when all hell has broken loose in Dr. Richardson’life. In story, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) recently revealed that she had an affair with Ted some 20 years ago and he is the father to her child, a daughter, none other than Nicole’s (Daphnee Duplaix) assistant, Eva (Ambyr Michelle). The fallout from here will be played by Robinson.
On Friday, Maurice Johnson took to his account on X and shared some special goodbyes and thank you’s. Johnson expressed, “I love and appreciate my #BTG fans and #BTG cast and crew fam! You loved on #Ticole #DrTed #TurtleneckTed #TeddyBear #TeddyWeddy and #FatherTed. Class, Gravitas, Passion, Empathy, Charisma, Chemistry and MANHOOD is what I gave Ted . We made history!” In addition to his written words, Johnson accompanied it with a video montage of stills from moments from his time on the CBS soap opera.

Responding to Michael Fairman TV’s post on this article on Saturday via X, Maurice Johnson wrote: “It’s never goodbye, always see you later. CBS, let’s give the fans what they want so these ladies won’t storm the gates 😂 “I ain’t hard to find” like Coach Prime Deion Sanders says 💪🏾”
As Johnson originally alluded to, Beyond the Gates did make history when it debuted back in February as the first Black-led hour-long soap opera and the first new daytime drama being launched in 25 years.
Before Beyond the Gates, Johnson’s TV credits included: Hawaii Five-0, Chicago Fire, The Catch, Nashville, Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse, Vampire Diaries and Good Girls to name a few. No word yet on Johnson’s next project, but stay tuned!
