'Wizard of Oz' stories can be yours at West Islip Library book sale - Newsday
You'll be off to see the Wizard, Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the Oz gang in literary form when the Friends of the West Islip Public Library holds its annual vintage and premium book sale May 30-31.
Several first and second editions from L. Frank Baum's popular series of books about the land of Oz will be among the treasures up for grabs at the sale, which helps raise funds for the library.
In addition to the "Oz" book, other rarities bibliophiles will find are an 1830 prayer manual, a vintage copy of "Gone With the Wind," schoolbooks from the 1880s and much more, said Melissa Matheson, president of the Friends of the West Islip Library.
The group first began hosting the sale in 2022, and it has been an ongoing success with the last one taking in $1,400. Those proceeds were used for children's programs. shredding days and other library services, Matheson said.
The sale will take place from noon to 5 p.m. May 30 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 31 at the library at 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip. For additional information, send an email to [email protected].
