The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has lashed out at former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua following his resignation from the ruling party, painting his departure as both overdue and welcome.

In a strongly worded letter dated Monday, 12 May, UDA secretary general Hassan Omar confirmed the party had received Gachagua’s resignation, accusing him of being a polarising figure who undermined national unity and failed to deliver on his responsibilities.

“This is to acknowledge receipt of your resignation letter,” Omar wrote. “Your belated resignation is a futile attempt to rewrite the facts of your incompetence arising from your inability to understand and execute the mandate of your office.”

The party further linked Gachagua’s resignation to what it termed his failure to execute key components of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, commonly known as The Plan, and cited this as one of the reasons Parliament moved to impeach him.

“The grounds established by Parliament warranting your impeachment are given further credence by your inability to internalise The Plan as the most progressive socio-economic transformative agenda in the history of the nation,” the letter added.
"The party took note of the grounds of your impeachment. We moved on with the stealth of national conscience to equally remove you as the deputy party leader," UDA said.

UDA, which is led by President William Ruto, also accused Gachagua of promoting tribalism and practising exclusionary politics that undermined national cohesion.

“You distinguished yourself as the worst tribal bigot to hold such high office in Kenya,” the party said. “Your shadoof methods, seeking to cordon off and perpetually relegate a group of citizens into lesser Kenyans through your misguided theory of shareholding, offends every aspect of The Plan.”
