Wild sign Tyler Pitlick to two-year, two-way contract
The Minnesota Wild made a signing to help bolster their depth on Tuesday, signing Tyler Pitlick to a two-year, two-way contract.
Pitlick will carry an annual average value of $775,000 – the NHL league minimum.
The 33-year-old from Minneapolis, Minnesota is set to join his 10th NHL organization dating back to 2017. Pitlick has never been part of his hometown club, having last played in the state back in 2009-10 when he skated for Minnesota State University for one year.
Pitlick is coming off the best season of his AHL career, scoring 21 goals and 46 points in 59 games to finish second in scoring on the Providence Bruins.
Pitlick has struggled to sustain a full-time NHL gig throughout his career, often bouncing between the NHL and AHL. He did go eight seasons without a trip down to the minors, but has spent the majority of the time down in the A since 2023-24. The right-handed forward has 56 goals and 109 points in 420 games over 10 NHL seasons, and another 138 points in 277 games over eight AHL campaigns.
Pitlick is primarily known for being a big, hard-nosed forward who can play both center and the wing. He has often struggled with production, but can still be useful in a bottom-line role. His last NHL experience came in 2023-24, where he had four points in 34 games on the New York Rangers‘ fourth line.
The Wild have been busy this week, acquiring the rights to Chase Priskie (who is currently an unsigned UFA) before trading for Vladimir Tarasenko from Detroit. The Wild didn’t do much in terms of impact moves today, but did also sign Nico Sturm and Ben Gleason.
Pitlick will likely return to the AHL, but gives the team a cheap call-up option with NHL experience if needed.
