▪ Three new WPV1 cases reported this week in 2025 from Pakistan. The newly WPV1 cases reported from: 2 from Sindh province (Thatta and Kambar districts) and 1 from Punjab province (Mandi Bahauddin district) with dates of onset between 13th January to 10th February 2025. The WPV1 case from Thatta district was identified by positive contact. The total WPV1 cases count for 2025 to date is 7 (1 from Afghanistan and 6 from Pakistan). In 2024, the total case count remains 99 (25 from Afghanistan and 74 from Pakistan).
▪ Twenty-Eight new WPV1 positive ES reported this week in 2025, all from Pakistan. The newly reported WPV1 ES are as follows: 15 from Sindh province (2 each from Hyderabad and Karachi East and 1 each from Jacobabad, Badin, Jamshoro, Sujawal, Sukkur, Dadu, Mirpurkhas districts, Karachi Malir, Karachi Central, Karachi Keamari, and Karachi Korangi towns), and 5 each from Balochistan province (Quetta, Chaman, Zhob, Loralai, and Noshki districts) and Punjab province (2 from Lahore and 1 each from Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala districts), and 3 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, and Lakki Marwat districts), with samples collection dates between 3rd to 11th February 2025. The total ES count to date in 2025 is 121 (9 from Afghanistan and 112 from Pakistan) compared to 741 in 2024 (113 from Afghanistan and 628 from Pakistan).
Vaccine derived poliovirus (VDPV)
▪ One new cVDPV2 case reported this week in 2025 from Djibouti. The newly cVDPV2 case reported is from Djibouti province (Djibouti district) with date of onset on 12th January 2025. The cVDPV2 cases count in 2025 to date is 1 (from Djibouti) compared to 41 in 2024 (37 from Yemen, 3 from Somalia, and 1 from Occupied Palestinian Territory).
▪ Two new cVDPV2 ES in 2024 reported this week from Djibouti. The newly reported cVDPV2 ES are both from Djibouti province (Djibouti district), with samples collection dates on 8th and 22nd December 2024. The count of cVDPV2 from ES in 2025 is 3, all from Occupied Palestinian Territory, as compared to 42 in 2024 (20 from Occupied Palestinian Territory, 7 each from Yemen and Djibouti, 3 from Somalia, 2 each from Egypt and Sudan, and 1 in Bahrain).
