Tobey Maguire, who played the role in Sam Raimi’s trilogy and was the ideal Spider-Man for a generation of fans, returned after more than a decade. His decision to get back into the suit reportedly even inspired Robert Downey Jr. to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom after his end in the franchise as Tony Stark.

While fans await confirmation on when the OG Spidey will next show up in the MCU, an industry insider revealed that another actor from Raimi’s trilogy is rumored to return to the franchise. Willem Dafoe, who plays Norman Osborne a.k.a the Green Goblin, is reportedly in talks to reprise his role.
Dafoe played a full-fledged role in Spider-Man and appeared in cameos in Raimi’s sequels. He played the role of Osborne and was a primary antagonist in No Way Home. With Dafoe returning, there is possibly a chance he might face his nemesis, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.

While actors like Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr. may be born to play their respective superhero roles, there is no one who can do Green Goblin better than Willem Dafoe. The four-time Oscar nominee strikes a perfect balance between the psychological complexity of Norman Osborne and the hammy villainous performance of the Goblin.
His return in Spider-Man: No Way Home was widely appreciated by fans as he seamlessly got into a role he last performed more than a decade ago. When asked if he was willing to reprise the role again, Dafoe was positive about it and said (via Inverse),
If everything was right, sure. I mean, that’s a great role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both.
It is not confirmed whether Dafoe will be returning in Spider-Man 4 or if he will wreak havoc on more Avengers in films like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
