When is MLB Opening Day? When all 30 baseball teams begin regular-season play - Yahoo Sports
The MLB offseason saw a plethora of faces move on to new places, like Juan Soto heading from the Bronx to Queens, Corbin Burnes headed to the desert in Arizona, Anthony Santander hopping the border to play in Canada, and Kirby Yates, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and Blake Snell all joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 2025 season is sure to keep fans invested as 29 teams vie to knock the Dodgers off their pedestal. However, Opening Day is still just peering out over the horizon. The Dodgers and Cubs are set to kick off spring training on Feb. 20. Then, a month later, they'll open the regular season with a two-game set in Japan. But fans of every other team will still have to wait more than a week to see their favorite team play.
Here's a full breakdown of MLB's Opening Day in 2025.
Angels star Mike Trout moving to right field, ready to prove people wrong
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs will play the first games of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season with a two-game set at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Both teams feature a myriad of Japanese stars, so it only makes sense that they'd serve as the ambassadors for this international series.
Each team will play two exhibition games against Japanese teams on March 16 and 17 before facing each other to start the regular season. Those games will be played on March 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. in Tokyo or 5 a.m. ET.
Giancarlo Stanton dealing with elbow issues, may not be ready for opening day
All but two teams will open the regular season on Thursday, March 27, nine days after the Dodgers and Cubs played the first game in Japan. The only teams that will not play on March 27 are the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays.
Due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Milton in October 2024, the Rays were forced to abandon Tropicana Field for 2025 and instead play their home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home for the New York Yankees. In order to prep the field for MLB regular season play, the team was allowed to push their first contest back to a day to Friday, March 28.
The first games on March 27 will be tilts between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees scheduled for first pitch at 3:05 p.m. ET, as well as the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Toronto Blue Jays set to start at 3:07 p.m. ET.
