The Countdown is on for Super Bowl 59; in only a few hours, the Kansas City Chiefs will battle it out with the Philadelphia Eagles to win the rare three-peat at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome on Sunday, February 9. The game will air live on Fox, unlike last year when the Super Bowl aired on CBS. This year, rapper Kendrick Lamar who made headlines for winning multiple Grammy Awards this week, is set to headline the halftime show with a special performance by SZA.
But what time will Lamar hit the mainstage? Let’s find out.
Besides watching the game live on Fox, viewers can also watch Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show on Fubo TV, Tubi, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and DirecTV Stream. Streaming on Tubi is completely free since it’s the official streaming partner for the games this year.
Lamar shared the news in September via a YouTube video that showed him on a football field in front of a giant American flag. "Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date," Lamar said in a statement. "And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."
Super Bowl 59 is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET. and the halftime show starts at about 8 p.m. However, that may be delayed slightly depending on how long the first half goes. The Super Bowl halftime show typically lasts around 30 minutes. The entire break isn't really handed over to the entertainer since some time is reserved for commercial advertisements, many of which feature A-listers.
In fact in the last few years, the Super Bowl halftime show never really went beyond 13-17 minutes; last year Usher only performed for 13 minutes, 21 seconds while the year before Rihanna performed for 13 minutes, 51 seconds.
Lamar is known for his compact sets; the rapper and SZA have collaborated numerous times, including on "30 for 30" from her December album "Lana." SZA also appeared on the tracks "Luther" and "Gloria" from Lamar's latest album "GNX," which dropped in November.
Jon Batiste, the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, who hails from Louisiana will perform the national anthem and native music icons Trombone Shorty, Lauren Daigle and Ledisi will also be part of the Super Bowl's pregame entertainment.
