What Goes Down Must Come Up; The Injured List is a Swinging Door - NewsBreak

As Cincinnati Reds players go, they win some, lose some, and some get rained out.

The Reds' game against their arch rival was rained out on Tuesday night, now, a double-header is scheduled to start at 12:40 on Wednesday.

The upside is that the Reds will get a chance for players with minor injuries to heal.

Jake Fraley was scratched with a quad contusion after fouling a ball off it on Sunday in Denver.

“Jake’s good. He’s still a little sore, but a night of getting some of the inflammation down was really helpful, Manager Terry Francona said.

The rain allows Fraley another day.

Austin Hays was not in the lineup on Tuesday. He is out with a tender hamstring that could use a day off.

“We are going to stay away from him tonight,” Francona said. “He actually had an MRI. We haven’t had any results yet. I believe it hurt scoring from first. I believe it was the highest sprint speed he’s had in years.”

Slumping Jeimer Candelario was scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday for discomfort in his lower back.

“He’s been feeling it for a while,” Francona said. “He finally confessed up to it a little bit. We’ll get him looked at and have information tomorrow.”

Tyler Stephenson was scheduled to catch nine innings tonight for the Louisville Bats in Memphis and nine again Wednesday night. He is scheduled to DH on Thursday, weather permitting.

“We kind of told him, we’d revisit that,” Francona said.

The Reds' catcher was ailing with a sore lower back since Spring Training.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand was hitting off a tee, recovering from a lower back strain.

“He is going to get a second epidural injection. There was always the option for that second injection. That’s what I think they’re going to do just to knock this thing out,” Francona said. “They think it will be quicker this time.”

The Reds are trying to take their time to heal players in April to allow them to compete for the long haul.
