The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has stressed the need for members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be firmly rooted in the party’s ideological principles if they are to effectively engage the Ghanaian public.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s Patriotic Institute on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the party headquarters in Accra, Afenyo-Markin described the new initiative as a strategic move to equip party communicators and future leaders with the tools to articulate the NPP’s values with clarity and confidence.

“If we, ourselves, do not fully understand what sets us apart, what makes our tradition the most capable of advancing Ghana’s development, then how can we effectively communicate it?” he questioned.

He stated that the Patriotic Institute would serve as a hub for ideological training, policy development, and strategic communication, ensuring that the party remains relevant and responsive in an ever-evolving political landscape.

“The first step to convincing the Ghanaian people is for us, within the party, to be fully grounded in who we are and what we stand for,” he added.

According to him, the Institute represents the clearest institutional expression of the party’s longstanding commitment to “development in freedom” and principled leadership.

He further noted that beyond rhetoric, the facility would help deepen internal understanding of the party’s roots in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

The Effutu MP maintained that the NPP has been the most transformative political force in Ghana's Fourth Republic, citing major interventions such as President Kufuor’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), President Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS), and the Agenda 111 health infrastructure projects.

“Our liberal democratic foundations are not just philosophical concepts. They have produced results,” he emphasised.

Afenyo-Markin encouraged all members of the party, especially the youth, to take advantage of the Patriotic Institute’s resources to strengthen their understanding and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
