The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was granted the honour of briefly stepping into the role of President of Ghana after President John Dramani Mahama invited him to deliver the keynote address from the presidential podium.

Asantehene thanked the President for the honor of conferring on him the symbolic role for thirty minutes.

“Thank you, Mr President, for allowing me to be President for the next 30 minutes or so. Thank you very much for the honour,” he said.

The summit, which runs from June 2 to 4, 2025, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

Organised in partnership with the Ashanti Green Initiative, the event focuses on Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.

This year’s theme, ‘Sustainable Mining & Local Growth – Leveraging Resources for Global Impact,’ highlights efforts to promote responsible mining practices, support policy reforms, and foster international cooperation in the ASM industry.

Ghana, Africa’s top gold producer and a country rich in diverse mineral resources, has emerged as a leader in sustainable ASM development.

Authorities say the sector is playing a vital role in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods in mining communities.

The summit aims to position Ghana as a model for balancing resource development with environmental responsibility and local benefit.
