Volunteering for NACE Opens Doors

Published 3 days ago2 minute read

I have been a NACE member for more than 10 years, and my experience has been career changing. In particular, I have learned so much after getting more involved and serving on some of the most incredible NACE committees, task forces, and affinity groups. Through this experience, I have also met some of the most amazing career readiness professionals.

The reason I volunteer with NACE is to be part of the positive impactful changes we make that help everyone in our profession. As a volunteer, I am promoting social connections, shaping future generations, and contributing to the progression of our professional organization.

Over the years, I have served in different ways. Currently, I serve on the Career Pathways Committee and the HBCU Affinity Group. It has been a pleasure to volunteer my time and to share my knowledge with these groups and to play a role in strengthening both the committees and affinity groups in which I have served by offering a different perspective and by addressing issues that need to be addressed.

Thus far, one highlight of my volunteer experience was serving as a panelist during the award-winning HBCU and Inclusion Summit this year. I, along with other career professionals, had the privilege to chat with early talent recruiters about what makes our schools unique and how to work with employers to make their recruiting job easier. It was exciting to share and receive information from employers and to provide them with the important and unique information about my university.

Volunteering with NACE is uplifting and creates opportunities to be involved with the changing workforce. It also allows members like me to break away from the usual day-to-day tasks to learn how to be a better director, professor, and a person. I am very grateful to be a NACE volunteer.
