Vodafone Idea Launches 5G Services in Mumbai Amidst AI Buildout Projections

In other news, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G services in India, marking a significant step in the country's technological advancement. Vi has partnered with Nokia to ensure the deployment of energy-efficient equipment, focusing on sustainability and high-performance network capabilities. The integration of an AI-based Self-Organising Networks (SON) system will continuously optimize network performance, ensuring seamless connectivity and efficient data management.
To make 5G services accessible to a broader audience, Vi has introduced an unlimited 5G data offer for plans starting at just Rs 299, positioning it as one of the most affordable options in the market. Jagbir Singh, chief technology officer of Vodafone Idea, stated, “Our focus is on introducing 5G meaningfully for our users. We have invested in building a robust 5G network by deploying the latest technology. By expanding our infrastructure, we are delivering a network that is ready for the future—seamless, powerful, and built for the demands of modern connectivity.”
Over the past year, Vodafone Idea has raised approximately Rs 26,000 crore in equity, including India’s largest Follow-on Public Offering (FPO) of ₹18,000 crore. The company has planned a capital expenditure investment of Rs 50,000–Rs 55,000 crore over the next three years. This investment aims to expand its 4G network to cover 90% of India and introduce 5G services in key geographies, enhancing connectivity and digital infrastructure across the country.
