Vinicius Jr says banner motivated him more as Real Madrid score twice late on to beat Man City

Manchester City defender John Stones, speaking on Amazon Prime: “A few games after the Arsenal one, I don’t know how to put it into words straight away, it’s so raw and frustrating for everyone.

“We were in the game until so late and then it’s two situations that happen and we concede. It’s frustrating as a defender to come away with that result.

“It’s a feeling of anger and frustration.

“We need to see games out better. The manager said we need to take accountability for what we do on the pitch, I think we do that. We need to step up when these bad moments happen.

“Today we had a great opportunity to go to the Bernabeu with a 2-1 lead. It’s not done. We have to stay positive, which is difficult now.

“As the manager says we need to look at ourselves and take accountability.

“We were right on top at the start of the game and we know Real have quality to come out in the second half. It is avoidable from us as the eleven on the pitch. We have to do better – it’s as simple as that.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime: “Many times it happen this season. I know the the quality of Real Madrid. We took the game in the second half and tried to attack too quick. It happens because they [Real Madrid] are an exceptional team.

“It happens many times this season. Bad decisions, that’s all. I take it. It’s not about you and me, it’s everyone. Yeah, that is all season [injuries]. But we know it.”

On if Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji will be fit for the second leg: “I don’t know.”

On the second leg: “Of course now it’s tough. We have to recover. I think now about Newcastle and then go to the Bernabeu.”

“Today was tight and in certain times we had chances.

“Many games at the end we give away. In that level it is so difficult. It is not the first time, it happens many times.

“There are mistakes in similar areas. It is difficult to manage but yeah, it happens many times.

“Players take decisions in the moment, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. We arrived in the last minute with the result but we could not keep it.

“It belongs to all of us, not just the players. I have not a problem to accept that it doesn’t work like it worked in the past. It is all of us.

“They want it, how they run and how they do it but the truth is that we are not stable enough in the moments. At the end, today is what it is and after tomorrow we have to continue to learn.

“There are many, many good things that we played. The result is what it is. Of course we did many good things, things can improve and always give credit for the opponent and the quality they have.”

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, speaking to Amazon Prime: “We didn’t deserve to be 1-2 down. We were really dangerous and defended really well. At the end of the day the victory is deserved. We have to stay calm. It’s only the first half. Anything can happen at the Bernabeu.”

What did you like most about your team? “The character, the personality. We had a good block defensively. It wasn’t easy. Tonight we were able to do this.”

On Manchester City: “They are a really good team and they played a really good game in my opinion. I think it was a penalty [Foden fouled]. The referee is one of the best in Europe.”

On match-winner Jude Bellingham: “It was a big goal. He played a fantastic game and was always dangerous. It was a top game for him.”

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, speaking on Amazon Prime: “It was a weird one. We played some of our best football of the season and ended up behind.

“I think we were playing well and creating a lot. We were always confident throughout the game that something would drop for us.

“I don’t care what form City are in they are still an unbelievable team. It’s always tricky to play against them and we finally took the chance at the end.”

On taking a lead into the second-leg: “It’s always good to take a lead back home and I’m sure the Bernabeu will come through for us.

It seems like there is up and downs in these knockout games. It’s not just game management, it’s tactical and it’s physiological as well.”

On his winning goal: “I just kept running on the off chance that Vini [Vinicius Jr] might put it wide, it’s rare he does that but it happened. Our performance deserved the win.”

On playing with a makeshift defence: “Two of the four defenders were midfielders. [Aurelien] Tchouameni plays there most weeks and it’s tough against one of the best nines in the world. [Raul] Asencio stepped up too.

“Credit to all four of them but especially those two.”

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois: “These are always hard games against them. Two teams who really wanted it. I felt today we were better than them and we deserved to win.

“We created a lot of chances, I felt we could win. The team wanted it a lot. We went for every ball, that is the spirit we need to beat a team like Manchester City.

“We are only halfway there.”

: That the club ordered and paid for. Embarrassing

: Oh dear always gonna bite you

: And the final score was….🤭

: I suppose if you are going to boo Jude Bellingham and unfurl a huge banner taking the piss out of Vinicius Jr then Karma is a REAL bitch isn’t it 😂

: He was nowhere near man of the match and even if he was I’m sure he’d swap it for a ballon d’or trophy instead!!

@Twonky13: Serves City right. Too arrogant by half.

@sportingminute: Love owt like this. The banner itself was very good, and the fact they ended up crying their hearts out is even funnier tbh.
