Useni died in France on January at the age of 82 years. Gen. Useni was buried beside his beloved wife, Mrs. Julie Useni, and their son, Danjuma Nancwat Useni, who died in an EAS plane crash in May 2002.

President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, said the former FCT Minister dedicated his entire life to the service of humanity and prayed that God should comfort his immediate family, the state and Nigeria at large.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, speaking at the funeral church service held at the COCIN church RCC Langtang, expressed happiness that the late Lt. Gen JT Useni spent his remaining days on forgiveness and reconciliation.

He said Christians should always pray to God for forgiveness, stressing that there would be no unity without forgiveness and reconciliation with one another.

The Governor urged the people to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation while expressing confidence that God would do a new thing on the Plateau.

Similarly, Bishop Ishaya Idowu, in his sermon, noted that Gen. JT Useni had impacted so many lives in Nigeria as a whole. He urged Nigerians to emulate the compassion and lifestyle of the deceased, stressing that he had rekindled hope for Christian and Muslim Ummah to live and coexist together in peace and love.

Senator Useni represented Plateau South from 2015 to 2019.
