The United States on Monday approved a $510 million sale of bomb guidance kits and related support to Israel, following significant munitions use in Israel’s recent conflict with Iran, The Times of Israel reported.

According to the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency, the sale is intended to strengthen Israel’s ability to defend its borders, vital infrastructure, and population centres against current and future threats.

The agency emphasised that supporting Israel’s self-defence capabilities aligns with US national interests.

“The proposed sale will enhance Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to defend Israel’s borders, vital infrastructure, and population centres.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defence capability,” DSCA noted.

The State Department has approved the proposed sale, and the DSCA has notified Congress, which must still approve the transaction.
