Scovia Agaba has never met her father, John Kimani, in nearly five decades since he abandoned her.

The determined vendor said she has searched for her father without success but refuses to give up.

“I am looking for my father and his relatives, to see if he is still alive. I want to see my father, and if he has passed away, my wish is to meet his surviving relatives,” she said.

Katurebe, Agaba’s uncle, explained that her life began in Kiswa Village, a suburb of Kampala on the Gamuka route, opposite Kiswa Primary School, where he lived with his late sister.

“I seem to know her father because, in the 1970s, I was working in Kampala at the Uganda Bata Shoe Company factory located on Fifth Street in the industrial area. I worked with a man named Johnny Kimani. That man was a Kikuyu,” he said.

According to Katurebe, Agaba’s father, then a foreman with the company, was a Kenyan national from Nakuru who went to Uganda in the 1970s.

While working at the factory, he fell in love with Agaba’s mother, who was employed there as a string operator.

Before Kimani left Uganda following a directive to repatriate foreign workers, he had already fathered a child with Agaba’s mother.

“I tried to return to the factory in Kampala to find more information, but unfortunately, they told me that they no longer have employment records from the 1970s,” Katurebe added.

Agaba also visited the Kenyan company that had deployed her father to Uganda in hopes of finding answers or leads.

However, her efforts bore no fruit, as the company claimed they had no record of him and asked if she knew his full name, including a third name.

Agaba shared that she has faced many challenges, including an unstable family life, which she attributes to not knowing her paternal roots.

“I don’t want any riches from them. I just want to find my bloodline,” she stated.

Closer to home, a woman from Machakos county took to social media seeking help to locate her father.

Mercy Wanza said she had never seen her father, Charles Oyaro Areba, who left shortly after her birth.

She told that her parents lost touch when her father went to the University of Nairobi’s Kabete campus.

Wanza clarified that their separation wasn’t due to any domestic conflict but rather the result of communication difficulties at the time.
