Tyrese Gibson Reveals Drastic Income Drop in Child Support Plea | In Touch Weekly
pleaded with the court to lower his child support payments to his ex-wife, , due to his income dropping by 85 percent, In Touch can exclusively report.
The Fast & Furious actor, 46, filed a petition, obtained by In Touch, on December 3, 2024, a couple weeks after he was arrested and then released over alleged back child support.
Tyrese and Samantha share a 5-year-old daughter named Soraya. Samantha was awarded primary custody in 2023.
A judge ordered Tyrese to pay Samantha $10,000 per month in child support. Tyrese said that since the child support was entered by the court, he has experienced a drastic reduction in his income.
Tyrese said his income has decreased by approximately 85 percent as of September 2024.
He said he pulls in around $39,000 per month.
His lawyer argued, “The income of [Tyrese] has drastically reduced since 2022 when the evidence was taken at the final trial in August 2022. Traditionally, as a self- employed individual, [Tyrese’s] income has fluctuated for his entire career over the past 26 years.”
Tyrese’s lawyer added, “Accordingly, because [Tyrese’s] income has decreased by more than eighty-five percent as of September 2024, [Tyrese] no longer has a high income” under the law.”
Tyrese starred in 2023’s Fast X and a film in the franchise is currently in pre-production. The actor has several other projects lined up, based on his IMDB.
Back in 2022, when the child support order was entered, the judge claimed Tyrese was earning $275,000 a month compared to Samantha’s income of around $7,880.
The court did not award Samantha spousal support. In his newly filed petition, Tyrese noted that Samantha was a certified social worker and has a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree, and “her income has likely increased substantially since August, 2022, but in an exact amount unknown to [Tyrese].”
“Consequently, [Tyrese’]s child support obligation should be modified based upon the current incomes of both parties effective immediately,” the actor’s lawyer wrote.
Tyrese noted that he hoped to settle the matter amicably with Samantha.
Samantha has yet to respond to the suit.
Last year, Tyrese was briefly jailed over his failure to make child support payments to Samantha. Specifically, he was accused of owing $73,525.73 in child support. After his release, Tyrese spoke out about the incident on Instagram. He said, “Getting arrested wasn’t easy. As a matter of fact it was very traumatic.”
As In Touch first reported last month, Tyrese dropped all claims of discrimination against Home Deport in court.
The actor claimed he was subjected to racial profiling at a L.A. store in 2023. Home Depot denied all claims of wrongdoing or that Tyrese experienced any discrimination at the store.
A rep for Home Depot released a statement after the lawsuit was filed that read, “Diversity and respect for all people are core to who we are, and we do not tolerate discrimination in any form. We value Mr. Gibson as a customer, and in the months since this happened, we’ve reached out to him and his attorneys several times to try to resolve his concerns. We will continue to do so.”
Tyrese and his legal team parted ways in June 2024 and he then dismissed all claims against Home Depot months later.
