While Marvel Studios keeps giving us amazing live-action adaptations of ’s characters, two new animated films are on the horizon that are based on his characters, but ones do not belong to Marvel. Deadline reports, Kartoon Studios and the UK’s GFM Animation have announced a new slate based on stories from the Stan Lee Universe. and will be the first two features of their joint slate.
is writing and directing Heroes At Large, which follows two best friends, Bill and Joe, who are ordinary dads and electrical repairmen. While they seem to have everything, they want: loving wives, fabulous kids, New York pizza, and the big game on TV, however, things take a turn when that comfort goes out the window.
The synopsis of the film further reveals, “.” Jenkins explains “We’re going to shine a spotlight on the family & comedic virtues of two ordinary guys who find themselves with extraordinary powers.”
Silver Sentinel will be written and directed by and , that follows Sentinel who is a masked crime-fighting superhero by night and a business exec and PTA mum, during the day. “The heartfelt mother/daughter story of Silver Sentinel is bursting with comedy, action, and a style all of its own,” Katie Hooten said of the flick. “Storytellers and parents, we’re thrilled to explore such timely themes that are as inspiring as they are fun.”
The synopsis further reveals things take a turn when her 14-year-old daughter Joey’s coming-of-age battles are complicated by the unexpected onset of superpowers. Hence, “the typical mum/daughter conflicts are amplified as Sentinel’s powers decline and Joey’s blossoms. The two must find a way to overcome their differences and reconnect to defeat an absurd old foe.”
Heroes at Large and Silver Sentinel sound like brilliant ideas as they take Lee’s legacy forward out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans’ love for the iconic comic book creator knows no bounds and his stories have always been relevant. The studios are doing a brilliant job of combining the superhero genre with family-friendly content. Currently, no further details are revealed about top-line talents or release window.
