Two injured players threaten to sue 3SC management over poor welfare
Two players of Ibadan-based Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) football team, Taiye Muritala and Lawal Abdullahi, have issued notice that they will take the club to court over alleged disregard for players’ welfare.
The players, who are managed by Corebozzez Sporting Agency, in a letter written by a law firm, Oladokun, Oladokun & Co, gave 3SC up till April 30, 2025 to heed the demand of the letter or face a legal action.
The two players, who sustained injuries while playing for Shooting Stars in November 2024, alleged that the club has shown no concern for their welfare and treatment, even when they were key and regular starting players prior to their injuries.
The letter signed by Sumbo Oladokun, reads in part: “However, when these players noticed the nonchalant attitude of the club, they decided to treat themselves and went for an MRI scan on the advice of a specialist doctor. It was from the results of the MRI scan that the specialist gave an interpretation that both players need to undergo different surgeries before it’s too late.
“It is pertinent to state, however, that the season is nearing its conclusion, and the club may choose to terminate their contracts, potentially ending the careers of these players; hence this letter and the date on it.”
It notes that the club has been nonchalant in its attitude to the players, adding that key officials have been avoiding their footballers.
“Take notice that you have till April 30, 2015, to heed the demands of this letter by acting on the advice of the doctor on the injuries of the players. Take further notice that if you fail, refuse, or neglect to heed the above demands, we shall not have any further recourse to you than to sue you in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the letter, which was copied to the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and the Sports Writers Association (SWAN), Oyo chapter, said.
