Trump's National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to Reportedly Step Down Amid 'Signalgate' Fallout
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is stepping down from his role, CBS News has reported, marking the first major departure from President Donald Trump’s senior leadership team during his second term in office.
Waltz’s exit follows the so-called “Signalgate” incident, where a secure Signal group chat created by Waltz was found to include a journalist by mistake. The chat, which involved top officials, reportedly featured discussions on potential military operations in Yemen.
While the Trump administration previously minimised concerns, asserting that no classified information was exchanged, the security lapse drew significant scrutiny.
According to North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher, the White House appeared to delay action until public attention around the incident had diminished. Waltz’s departure coincides with Trump marking his first 100 days in office, a milestone his team has been actively promoting.
