Products in the ‘Fresh & Light’ range contain 30% less sugar when compared to the market average blended juice or apple and grape juice, Tropicana claims, while still delivering “unrivalled taste and quality that consumers will love”.
Tropicana added that it hopes the NPD will provide retailers with an invaluable opportunity to recruit lost shoppers back into the category, in turn driving value and volume.
Selected Tropicana Fresh & Light SKUs are available now via Asda and Ocado, while the full range will be rolled out in Sainsbury’s, Spar, Nisa and Amazon Fresh from the end of April, and then Morrisons and Tesco from May onwards.
The range includes three flavours – Morning Orange, Crisp Apple and Tropical – all of which are available in 850ml cartons that retail at £2.75.
Meanwhile, the orange and tropical flavours are also sold in larger 1.45l formats.
“The juice category has seen a decline in shoppers due to the rising cost of fruit juice and concerns over sugar intake, so Tropicana has addressed those with the launch of Fresh & Light,” said Sophie Loveday-Davies, marketing manager at Tropicana.
“More than one third of consumers have claimed that sugar was the main driver for them reducing or stopping juice consumption so we have created Fresh & Light, made with delicious pressed fruits blended with water to provide a reduced sugar and refreshing juice drink for the whole family.
“In addition to offering 30% less sugar than traditional fruit juice, Tropicana Fresh & Light is also priced at an affordable entry point to branded juices, offering consumers a healthy, refreshing option that won’t break the bank.”
Tropicana is owned by French private equity firm PAI Partners, which acquired a majority stake in the brand from PepsiCo in 2021.
PAI Partners and PepsiCo subsequently created the Tropicana Brands Group in 2022, a company with a portfolio that includes Tropicana, Naked, Dole and Copella.
PAI Partners also backs The Compleat Food Group, which was formed as a result of the merger of Addo Food Group and Winterbotham Darby in January 2021.
